Divorcee Sale Helps Women Move on in Style
|

If you're seeking divorce advice in Pasadena, chances are good you want to get rid of your past and start over. Even the act of ditching your old wardrobe in order to start fresh can be liberating. One New York-based company is helping women do just that - all while benefiting a good cause.
The Divorcee Sale is a clothing resale company that works a lot like an online consignment shop. The difference is that the Divorcee Sale was "created by fashion- and charity-minded individuals who saw a need to help their friends discard their fashionable luggage from their previous life," according to the company's website. Divorcees are encouraged to sell their old clothes from their married days, which founder Jill Alexander says helps them clean out their closets while making some much-needed extra cash.
"You go to these women's homes and they have closets of Chanel bags that they no longer need, gowns they no longer need, fur coats that they no longer need. ... Life changes when you go through a divorce," Alexander said. "One consigner who was previously married and had 60 designer gowns ... well, her life has completely changed and she no longer needs the gowns and would rather get the money and buy things that she can wear for her new life."
Style-hunters in search of good bargains on designer merchandise can score big time at one of the Divorcee Sales. From Dior suits to Christian Louboutin shoes, shoppers find big names at even bigger discounts. The sales, which are held across the country, are also fundraisers for charities like the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
"Women, the sisterhood, are coming together," said Myra Biblowit, the foundation's president. "We get through divorce, we get through breast cancer, and you go on to a healthy and beautiful life in glorious fashions." |
